December 21-23: Smoky Mountain Classic basketball tournament in Gatlinburg, TN.

December 22: Assault reported at Gatlinburg cabin. A freshman OHS student undergoes surgery at UT Medical Center. Medical staff alert Gatlinburg Police Department.

December 24: Rumors of the assault make it to Chattanooga and Channel 3. Ooltewah High School Principal Jim Jarvis confirms, telling Channel 3 in an email, “a violation of team policy did occur.” He went on to write, “It is currently under investigation and will be dealt with.”

December 26: Ooltewah basketball plays in the Best of Preps tournament at Chattanooga State.

December 30: School officials tell Channel 3 they will have no statement on punishment from the school district until after the holidays.
December 30: Bond hearing is held in Sevier County for the three juveniles.

December 30: Victim is released from the hospital after an eight-day stay.

January 3: Attorney for Ooltewah High School basketball coach Andre Montgomery issues statement on behalf of his client.

January 3: More than 100 graduates of Ooltewah High School sign a letter to Hamilton County education officials demanding “transparency” and asking them to face the issue “head-on.”

January 4: Hamilton County teachers return to school for in-service. Channel 3 again asks Supt. Rick Smith’s office for comment and they tell us to call back again first thing Tuesday, when an interview would be set up.

January 4: The Hamilton County District Attorney's Office announces they and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office to investigate allegations of upperclass members and/or former members of the Ooltewah High School boys’ basketball team prior to the December incident in Sevier County.

January 5: Channel 3 again requests an interview with Supt. Rick Smith and is told by his secretary to expect one at Wednesday evening’s special school board session. When asked why he won’t be talking to the media she said it’s because of an “ongoing investigation.”
January 6: Students return to class. A special school board session is planned for 5:30pm, where board members will hear from attorneys. According to an agenda for the 6:00pm session to follow, “The purpose of the Special Called Session will be for consideration of action regarding the Ooltewah High boys basketball team and for review of school board policy and procedures regarding bullying and hazing.” A portion of the meeting will be open to the media and public.

January 6: The closed Hamilton County School Board Special Called Session concluded, and the public comment and question period last a mere 5 minutes, which statements being read by Hamilton County Superintendent Rick Smith and Hamilton Co. School Board Chairman Dr. Jonathan Welch. No questions were taken or answered.
