UPDATE: THP seeking info in deadly I-75 crash

UPDATE: Investigators with the Tennessee Highway State Patrol are looking for the driver in a deadly crash on I-75 in Bradley County.

The crash happened January 2 around 6:30 pm near mile marker 24.

The THP says 24-year-old Robert Arruda was killed, after an unknown vehicle hit his car while moving north, causing Arruda to hit a tractor trailer on the southbound side.

Troopers ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have any information about the event to contact the Tennessee Highway Patrol Chattanooga District Emergency Dispatch Communications Center at 1-800-305-2201, EXT 2. Please request to speak with Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) Trooper John Cochran. The case number of this incident is 216000348.


PREVIOUS STORY: The man who was killed in a accident on I-75 in Bradley County, Saturday has been identified. 

According to the preliminary report from Tennessee Highway Patrol, Robert L. Arruda, 24, from Etowah, was wearing his seat belt. Arruda was traveling north on I-75 of mile marker 24. His vehicle may have been hit by an unknown vehicle, the report states. This caused Arruada's vehicle to travel across the median into the path of the tractor trailer as it was traveling south on I-75. Arruda's car came to rest in the median, and the tractor trailer went across the median and came to rest in the northbound lanes of I-75.

THP is currently investigating the crash and is looking at all options on the cause of the crash.

PREVIOUS STORY: The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports at least one person is dead following a multi-car accident on I-75 in Bradley County Saturday evening.

Lt. John Harmon with THP tells Channel 3 the accident involves at least one car and a tractor trailer.

Emergency responders were called to the scene just after 6:30 p.m.

Both the north and southbound lanes of I-75 are shut down at mile marker 23. Traffic is being diverted. There is no word on the number of vehicles involved or other injuries. According to TDOT, the scene is estimated to be cleared by 10:30 p.m.
