CHATTOOGA COUNTY, GA (WRCB) -

A semi crash in Chattooga County has shut down some local businesses on New Year's Day.

It happened this morning in Summerville at the intersection of Highways 27 and 114.

A county dispatcher says the tanker was carrying sodium hydroxide, which spilled on to the road and could take several hours to cleanup. She says the chemical is only hazardous if touched.

The dispatcher also says a couple of businesses are closed due to the cleanup. It is unclear if or when they will reopen today.

No one was injured in the crash.
