Chattanoogans on their own for NYE celebration

Posted: Updated:

The 2015 ChattaNew Year celebration looked promising as thousands flocked to Chestnut Street for the lights, music and rising Coca Cola bottle.

In the weeks leading up to the event, support came pouring in from the city, sponsors and other community members giving hope that the Scenic City would finally have a signature event to call it's own.

But this year, that momentum has come to a halt leaving Chattanoogans on their own.

ChattaNew Year organizers tell Channel 3 they will not hold a community-wide event this year saying even though last year's event was successful, there were a number of factors that played a role in the decision but wouldn't go into detail.

But that doesn't mean you have to ring in 2016 at home. There are still several events going on around the Scenic City.

The Chattanooga Choo Choo, which has transformed into an entertainment hub, will kick off New Year's Eve with a couple of concerts including Velcro Pygmies at the Revelry Room and Here Come the Mummies at Track 29. Plus, you can catch some laughs at the Comedy Catch

If you're looking for something more family friendly, don't forget Ice on the Landing. They're staying open late for the countdown to 2016.

As for Chattanooga ever having a community-wide New Year event, ChattaNew Year organizers say they're optimistic.
