Lane closures coming to U.S. 27 construction zone Monday

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -
Coming on Monday, January 4, Tennessee Department of Transportation crews will have temporary lane closures that will allow them to install median barrier rails, remove the median, and perform paving work between 12th Street and 6th Street.
The work will last from Monday, January 4 through Wednesday, January 6 between the hours of 7:00pm - 6:00am.
This work will require the left lane to be closed on U.S. 27 North and South.
During the first phase of the U.S. 27 project, work will be performed on the northbound side of U.S. 27 on the bridges.
After crews place the barrier rail, they will demolishing and reconstructing the outside sections of the bridges along U.S. 27 North.
A large retaining wall will be constructed between the Olgiati Bridge and 6th Street on U.S. 27 South.
At least one lane will remain open in each direction on U.S. 27.
As a reminder, TDOT crews have disconnected the street lighting within the 1.6 mile project area from the I-24 interchange to south of the Olgiati Bridge. The U.S. 27 in the project area will remain without street lighting until new lights are installed and activated during the latter stages of the project in 2019.
Motorists are advised to use caution as they travel through the construction area, particularly during nighttime hours.
