Scattered showers today, and much cooler heading into the weekend

Posted: Updated:

Good Wednesday.  Skies will be cloudy today with scattered showers on and off through the day.  The general rule for the rain will be the further south and east you are, the better your chances for rain.  The highest amounts I expect will be about 1/2" from Dalton to Murphy, NC.  Chattanooga and Cleveland could get about 1/3", and I expect only a light trace in spots north.  Highs will be cooler today with a high of 58.

Tonight, the front producing the rain will drift east and we will see skies clear as the low drops to 44 Thursday morning.  Thursday afternoon will climb to 55 under mostly sunny skies.

Friday marks the new year, and it will be a chilly one with a low of 37 and a high of only 48.  The average high for January 1 is 50.

Saturday and Sunday will be quite chilly.  Both days of the weekend will have lows in the upper 20s.  Highs will stay in the upper 40s and low 50s.  Next week will warm up into the mid to upper 50s.
