Christmas day toy give away draws in thousands to North Georgia

The Providence ministries in Dalton made for a very merry Christmas for thousands of neighbors in our area. They hosted their annual Christmas day toy give away. Friday morning the team at the ministry supplied thousands of toys and meals for kids and adults.
Toys on top of toys pile high at The Providence Ministries for little children to enjoy a very merry Christmas.

“Anyone who wants to show up, no paper work, no requirements. If you show up you will get a meal and kids will get three toys, a stuffed animal, and some stocking stuffers,” said volunteer Larry Winter.

Friday, it’s not only the children who are  feeling the Christmas  magic volunteers of all ages help to play Santa’s elves.

“It overwhelms my heart. I don't think there is anything better you can do on Christmas Day than this,” said Courtney Strickland.

Strickland is one of the many volunteers donating her time to children to help pick out toys to fill their stockings. Hundreds of volunteers help to make Friday a success in Santa’s workshop as well as in the kitchen.

“Anytime you can see a child smile when they leave here, that is my joy. I enjoy that very much,” said Chef Simon Pressley.

The ministries served over three thousand hot plates for neighbors stopping by. “I was called to do this. I was called to do this.”

Just another small gesture to make sure everyone in the community feels the Christmas spirit. “If Scrooge didn't have Tiny Tim and Bob Cratchit we would have brought them here and melted his heart as well,” said Winter.

Volunteers handed out over 5,000 gifts for around 2,000 children. Organizers say they served well over 3,000 meals.
