Monday, Hamilton County deputies learned how to save the life of a K-9 partner while in the field.

Deputies learned how to save their furry partners by using the "Buddy Bag", which contains life-saving equipment such as trauma dressings, bandages and ointment.

The idea is that an officer can put a patch on his K-9's wound until emergency veterinary care is available.

"The bag contains a lot of things for stabilization," Jacob Liu tells Channel 3. "A lot of times when you have injuries that occur to working dogs, they're unfortunately things that have to be addressed by a vet, but the kit gets you to the point where you can transport them in a lot of different cases."

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office purchased the Buddy Bags through private donations.
