Deal to bring about 200 jobs to downtown Knoxville

Posted: Updated:

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tombras Group advertising and public relations firm has signed a contract to buy two properties in downtown Knoxville.

Those involved in the deal tell the Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1RD39SR ) that the $10 million investment will bring about 200 jobs to downtown. Charlie Tombras, the company's president and CEO, says if all goes as planned, the firm will be moved into its new headquarters in about a year.

The deal includes the former Knoxville Utilities Board Building and a smaller adjoining building. The property is currently owned by developer Tim Hill.

Tombras Group has applied for a 20-year tax-increment financing incentive of $1.7 million for the project, and hopes to have a decision by sometime in February. Tombras Group plans an extensive renovation of the property.
