CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- " She was awakened by a black male suspect with a handgun." Chattanooga Police say it was around 5 am in the 500 block of South Germantown Road when 3 suspects, one of which was armed, stormed the home of a single mom and her two children, ages four and one, and began ransacking the residence, while holding the mother at gunpoint. " It does happen from time to time, but it is kind of rare here in Chattanooga especially," says Sergeant Scott Bales of the Chattanooga Police Department. " Most of the time, any kind of home invasion is going to be drug related in some way 13:47 Bales says investigators don't believe this incident was drug related, but are not precluding anything. Neither of the children were harmed, but Sergeant Bales says the mother could have been the rape target of one of the home invaders, had it not been for one of his partners in crime. " The possibility that he was going to attempt to sexually assault her, but the other suspect came in and told him that they didn't have time and to move on." Bales says the trio left with items from the home that he doesn't want to reveal. The suspects are described as black males, the gunman from 18 to 21 years old with a light complexion and weighing from 130 to 150 lbs. The second suspect is described as 5'5 to 5'10 and heavy set.
