UPDATE: I-75 re-opened after fog closure
Traffic was diverted off Interstate 75 due to fog Wednesday morning, but the roadway was since been re-opened.
UPDATE: The Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Department of Transportation have re-oepned Interstate 75 northbound Wednesday after a fog closure.
Northbound traffic was diverted off the interstate at Exit 33, just south of the Fog Zone in Bradley County northward into McMinn County to Exit 36.
TDOT spokesperson Jennifer Flynn told Channel 3 that closing the interstate due to fog is a very rare occurrence.
Reductions in the speed limit during fog are far more common, according to Flynn.
Visibility was severely reduced. Until traffic flow returns to a normal pattern, the use of an alternate route is suggested.
THP troopers are on hand at the entrance/exit ramps, and are being assisted by deputies from both Bradley and McMinn Counties.
