Officials seek video of police killing man in Tennessee

Posted: Updated:

Authorities are seeking video footage of Chattanooga police fatally shooting a man they say threatened a child and an officer who tried to help.

Police say officers found Javario (ha-BA'-ree-oh) Eagle armed and with the child about noon Saturday. Police say Eagle entered and exited a house multiple times, refusing to follow officers' directions. They say that at one point, he exited holding the child and brandishing a knife and firearm.

Police say the child escaped and was rescued by an officer. Police then opened fire after they say Eagle "moved aggressively" toward the officer and child, brandishing the weapons.

The police statement seeking video doesn't specify what kind of footage authorities want.

When asked whether seeking video was standard, police Chief Fred Fletcher told the Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/1NO1dV2 ) "it will become common procedure" if it hasn't been.
