Mild weather has kept crowds at Hamilton Place Mall a bit thin for December, but it hasn't kept Billie Deyampert away. She'd rather not deal with the cold when shopping for her two young grandsons.
"Getting in and out of the car is a lot better without having to fool with a heavy coat," says Deyampert.
No ice and snow to get in the way, either, especially when having to make several trips from the stores to the car and back.
"I've hit nearly every store and I've got quite a lot done already," adds Deyampert.
Mall spokesperson Catharine Wells has special events planned this weekend to attract shoppers and make sure the possible record-breaking warm temperatures don't led to cold sales for retailers.
"We have the Childrens Miracle Network radio-a-thon tomorrow [Saturday]. Ginger Brown's Academy of Dance recital is on Sunday," says Wells.
As always, pictures with Santa are available with discounts for military families, but stores are also offering deep discounts on winter clothing which haven't been selling well. Also, to make it feel more like Christmas there's even a snow machine set up.
With highs in the 70s expected, Wells wants to make sure nobody forgets that time is running short to find the perfect gifts for your loved ones.
"Nobody thinks that we're only two weeks away from Christmas, and the reality is there are only 13 shopping days left," Wells reminds us.
Camp Jordan's Christmas Nights of Lights attendance has also been down a bit because of rain early this month, but owner-operator Dodd King says it's getting better.
"Picking up now. I think tonight and tomorrow night and Sunday should be really good nights here," says Dodd.
He says the warm weather can actually make the light show more enjoyable, especially for the youngsters.
"They can get in the back of the trucks," adds Dodd. "I've got an antique tractor coming with a hayride wagon pulling them through here."
