Decatur celebrates opening of Meigs' first McDonald's

" I'm good, how are you?" replies a customer to the inquiring cashier.

It's meet and greet day at Decatur, Tennessee's first ever McDonald's.

The dream of so many Meigs Countians for so long, was finally realized by North Georgia native and longtime McDonald's man Jim Aaron.

" Its a great opportunity," says owner and franchisee Jim Aaron on the restaurant's opening day. "To bring what we think is, of course, one of the top brands in the whole world to such a great community, we probably should have been here five or ten years ago."

" I wanted to pick a place close to Vonore, you know, obviously right down the road, right," says Aaron to one of his many first-day customers.

Aaron, a 38-year McDonald's veteran who worked his way up from fry boy to multiple location owner, promises to deliver more than the world famous burger to the Watts Bar area.

And like any successful businessman, he knows he's only as good as his staff.

"Passionate about my people, developing my people, we're employing in this, we've hired 65 people, so we're growing the job base."

"They're also bringing sales tax revenue, the property and city taxes for our county and our city", explains Tiffany Wade-Pilkey, President of the Meigs County;Decatur Chamber of Commerce. "So, we're just very thankful for everything that they're creating for our community."

Wade-Pilkey hopes the golden arches now spanning over Decatur's stretch of Highway 58, will fulfill more than the growing swells of hungry diners.

Aaron, who owns two other area locations in Charleston and Vonore, expects brisk business at the Decatur restaurant to justify keeping it open for 24 hour service.
