Thousands of people spent their Thanksgiving morning running or walking in the 16th Annual Grateful Gobbler Walk.

Several thousand people began the 5K event in Coolidge Park before crossing Market Street Bridge and turning around at Miller Plaza.

"It's awesome to see so many people come out here on Thanksgiving day. You get to bring the dogs, walk across a beautiful city, it's pretty awesome," said Participant Matthew Mucciolo. "We just feel like it's a cool way to get the family together in the morning and start things right for Thanksgiving."

The family fun walk, run or stroll began at 8 a.m. at Coolidge Park and benefits the Maclellan Shelter for Families located onsite at the Chattanooga Community Kitchen.

The Maclellan emergency shelter has 64 beds and provides a stable environment for an intact family to remain together as they search for permanent housing solutions.

According to the event organizers, more than 75 families have benefited from the Maclellan Shelter for Families since December of last year.
