Officials at McKamey Animal Center are doing everything they can to make sure their animals get a fair chance for adoption. That includes naming our own price.
On Black Friday, McKamey will open their doors from 11:00 am - 5:30 pm to allow pet adopters to choose how much they are willing to pay for one of their 300 animals.
It's the second year the center has done this type of event. Last year, 68 animals were re homed-- The most the center has ever seen in one day. This year, they hope to beat that figure.
Executive Director, Jamie McAloon says this is the time of year when they see the most animals for a couple of reasons.
"For us, around the holidays, it's a sad time because a lot of animals get taken to an animal shelter for a variety of reasons, so we fill up around the holidays. Now, we've got this cold weather, our officers are out investigating animals in stressed conditions. We know we'll take a lot of animals in," she said.
The center normally charges $65 for dogs and $40 for cats. This "Name Your Price" deal includes vaccinations, deworming, Leukemia and heart worm testing, flea treatments and spay or neutering.
