Band of the Week: Notre Dame
The Band Director at Notre Dame says he has some good kids. We could not agree more. And what an outstanding sound, too. Their playoff run continues, so the Notre Dame Band is guaranteed at least one more week of great tunes in the stands. They are our band of the Week!
Notre Dame Band Director Jeff McIntosh gets a whole lot of great sound out of his 38 students, and he certainly knows how. At the post forr 16-years now, he keeps his own chops up by playing with the Chattanooga Symphony. As part of the Pops series, he even got to play around with the great Doc Severinsen!
I credit the three Sousaphones fo the big full sound in the stands, but as a tuba player, I might be biased! They have a number of musical ensembles at Notre Dame including the concert band, the jazz band, the drum line, and the pep band whose season continues tonight with another win in the playoffs! The group play pop music and fun tunes, just anything to get the crowd up and keep them moving.
Lots of Mr. McIntosh's players are trying out for All East Tennessee concert and jazz band honors, so we certainly wish them well. If you would like to get a taste of their awesome work, head over to see them in the Notre Dame Auditorium on December 9th at 9pm. Their Christmas concert is free and open to the public. But, first, enjoy them here. The tubas kick this piece off. It is the ESPN theme and we thank the Notre Dame Band for being our Friday Night Football Band of the Week!
