U.S. Attorney William C. Killian on Thursday submitted his resignation to President Barack Obama.

Killian, federal prosecutor for the Eastern District of Tennessee, is joining a national law firm, according to a news release. His resignation is effective Dec. 5.

Killian was sworn into office Oct. 4, 2010, after nomination by Obama and unanimous confirmation by the U.S. Senate.

The release did not say which law firm Killian was joining or who would be acting U.S. attorney when he leaves.
