WHITFIELD COUNTY, GA (WRCB) -

UPDATE: In Georgia, anyone who is 17 years old is considered an adult in the criminal court system. That's why Southeast Whitfield High School student 17-year-old Devin Fields' name and the details surrounding his arrest are being released.

The Southeast High School's football team's roster shows that Fields is a senior running back. The standout player was charged, earlier this week, for assaulting a fellow student.

According to a police report, a 19-year-old female student at Southeast called 911, claiming she had been raped.

She told officers she was leaving school on Tuesday afternoon when Fields allegedly jumped in her car and demanded a ride home.

The alleged victim said she drove Fields to his house, leaving her car in drive, expecting him to jump out. She claims he then put her car in park, forced her inside, threw her on the floor and ripped off her pants. She said she fought back, and was able to run away to call police.

Fields was charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping and criminal attempt to commit a felony.

Neither Fields' family, nor the victim's family, wanted to comment on the case.

However, spokesperson for Whitfield County Schools released a statement to channel 3, addressing Fields' arrest.

"The staff and administrators in all of our schools put students' safety first," said spokesperson Eric Beavers. "We are working with the sheriff's office to research the reported incident and cannot discuss an ongoing investigation."

The teen made his first court appearance this afternoon, via video conference from the Whitfield County Jail, for a bond hearing. There, a judge set Fields' bond at $5,750.

A Southeast Whitfield football running back is being held in the Whitfield County Jail for allegedly kidnapping a female student and assaulting her.

According to a police report, deputies were called to a home on Tuesday in response to an attempted rape.

When deputies arrived they spoke with a juvenile, who identified herself as a student at Southeast Whitfield High School. She told officers she was leaving school Tuesday afternoon when 17-year-old Jacquez Devin Fields jumped in her car and demanded she give him a ride home.

The alleged victim told officers when they arrived at Fields’ home she left the car in drive, expecting him to jump out. That’s when she says he forced her inside, threw her on the floor and ripped her pants off. She stated she fought back and was able to run away to call 911.

Fields was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, kidnapping and criminal attempt to commit a felony. He was booked at the Whitfield County Jail and is due in court this afternoon for a first appearance and bond hearing.

According to the school’s team roster, Fields is a senior running back for the Southeast Whitfield High School football team.

The state of Georgia classifies anyone 17 years-old or older as an adult in the criminal court system. For that reason, Fields’ name and details of his arrest are being released.
