VW to meet with EPA to outline diesel fix

Volkswagen will meet with the Environmental Protection Agency and California regulators Thursday and Friday to discuss the company's initial recall plans.

VW has a Friday deadline to outline how it will fix diesel cars equipped with software that cheated U.S. emissions tests.

Earlier this month, the company offered $1,000 in gift cards to U.S. customers that was meant to show goodwill, but has been met with a lukewarm response.

The German automaker is also expected to announce substantial spending cuts Friday as the company prepares for the financial impact of the emissions-cheating scandal that could set up a confrontation with its powerful labor representatives.
