CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

A Chattanooga woman is facing attempted murder charges after police say she hit another woman in the head with an ax.

Officers arrested Juanita Chappell, 34, after an assault at a homeless camp on Chestnut Street over the weekend.

According to court documents, police were called to Chestnut Street to reports of a woman with a head injury. The victim told police she was hugging a friend when Chappell hit her in the head with the blunt side of an axe, injuring her head and knocking out several teeth. The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated.

Officers found Chappell in the street on Chestnut Street near the homeless camp. She told officers she hit the woman because she hugged her boyfriend “intimately”.

Chappell was transported to the Hamilton County Jail and booked under charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.
