Sheriff Jimmy Harris, from DeKalb County, Alabama, reported Thursday, faculty at Ruhama School received information that a student over the age of 12 brought a gun to school.
School faculty told the School Resource Officer, Mary Waters, conducted a search for the gun but, was not able to find anything at that time .
After a search Friday morning and questioning the student, the student admitted to bringing a gun to school one day last week. SRO Waters, then notified the Juvenile Probation Office.
Sheriff Harris stated, “I have been in contact with Superintendent Hugh Taylor and this is an ongoing investigation that is being handled within his office and ours. Ruhama staff and SRO Waters did an outstanding job after receiving the information. We are pleased that no one was injured during this situation.
The case has been turned over to the Juvenile Probation Office and the School Board.
