Some soul-searching (and cleaning) needed at one restaurant

Posted: Updated:
HAMILTON COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -

The scores continue to soar at the Health Department. Actually, there are too many high scores to pass along this week at both Hamilton County restaurants and schools. The hard work is obvious these days and I say congratulations.

But as usual, we always give you the low score of the week and it's very close to being a failing grade. Remember, any score lower than a 70 means they have ten days to correct all critical violations. This place needs to do some soul-searching when it comes to kitchen problems.

Herman's Soul Food Restaurant on Brainerd Road is the place, and the inspector found the walk-in cooler out of temperature, the dishwasher was dispensing sanitizer and the kitchen staff was thawing turkeys at room temperature on the floor.

Remember, thawing must take place under running water or in microwave or cooler. Also, employees were not washing hands between various food tasks. They serve up a 70.

If you notice that the restaurant is really clean, let the employees and management know. There's nothing more powerful than a compliment.

If you have complaint about a pool, restaurant, health care facility, or day care, even the place where you workout call the Hamilton County Health Department Hot Line at 423-209-8110. Someone will personally handle your complaint weekdays between 8:00am and 4:00pm.

Have a great weekend and enjoy your meal!
