Hwy 58 VFD gets improved fire protection rating

Posted: Updated:

The Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department received an improved rating for fire protection services, earning a Class 4/4x Public Protection Classification from the Insurance Services Office (ISO), according to a news release.
The Highway 58 VFD district covers an area of Ooltewah, Harrison, Birchwood, Georgetown, and Snowhill and protects nearly 110 square miles maintaining 4 Fire Stations and a Training Center.

The ISO rating scale ranges from 1 (exceptional fire protection) to 10 (recognized as no fire protection).

The rating is based on emergency communications, capabilities on responding to emergency calls and providing water supply.

Also factored into the rating are structures that are located within 5 miles of a fire station and 1,000 feet from a water source.

The new rating will gives Highway 58 VFD with an important tool for planning, budgeting and justifying fire protection improvements.
