Sen. Alexander to host Monday education talk in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA (AP) - Republican U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander is hosting a round table on higher education issues at Chattanooga State Community College on Monday.
Alexander is a former president of the University of Tennessee and current chairman of the Senate education committee.
The senator plans to discuss the success of Gov. Bill Haslam's Tennessee Promise program that offers free community college tuition to any high school graduate. He will also present details of his proposal to simplify federal financial aid applications, and his efforts to persuade his congressional colleagues to reauthorize the Higher Education Act.
Other participants in the discussion include Chattanooga State President Flora Tydings and Krissy DeAlejandro, the executive director of tnAchieves, a partner to the Tennessee Promise program
