The end of an era: Locals pack Mom's Italian Villa for one last meal
After 54 years, a popular Chattanooga Italian restaurant is closing its doors for good.
Mom's Italian Villa on Market Street will close permanently on Friday.
People lined up outside Thursday morning just to get a seat one last time at the family owned restaurant. It's served the Chattanooga community for decades.
Many customers know owner Randy Shuford by first name. Shuford's grandmother opened "Mom's" back in 1961.
Shuford says the decision to close "Mom's" was a tough one, but deep down he knew it was time.
All week, folks have packed the quaint restaurant for lunch and dinner just to enjoy one last meal and say goodbye.
"Just the home atmosphere and Mom was always here, when she was alive, and come and talk to people. Randy's done a great job through the years keeping things going. I hate to see it go," Jeff Nelson said.
Nelson has been a returning customer since 1990.
"You make a lot of friends and you're seeing all of those friends come in for their last time, it's really overwhelming. I never expected anything like this," Shuford added.
Shuford plans to take some time off and spend some time with family and maybe down the line open another business in the future.
If you would like one last meal at Mom's, Friday is your last chance.
