SCAM ALERT: Imposters posing as EPB employees calling, going door-to-door

Posted: Updated:

Another scam alert to warn you about as EPB says there are people impersonating EPB employees and their contractors.
People continue to be targeted by telephone scams from callers posing as EPB employees or collection agents who inform them that their electric service will be disconnected unless immediate payments are made with a reloadable debit card.

EPB says they do place courtesy calls to remind customers of past due accounts, EPB never asks customers to make immediate payments with pre-paid debit cards.
There have also been reports that people impersonating EPB tree contractors have approached customers with offers to perform tree work on a cash-only basis. EPB employees and contractors never solicit customers for payments to perform tree work. Additionally, EPB contractors use clearly-marked vehicles and carry identification showing that they are working for EPB.
Anyone who is gets a visit from these door-to-door solicitors to call police and give a description of the imposters.

If you receive a call from a person claiming to represent EPB demanding immediate payment, please call EPB 423-648-1372.
