UT's ‘Rocky Top' named No. 1 fight song by USA Today
Citing its unchanging ability to motivate University of Tennessee fans, USA Today has named “Rocky Top” the No. 1 fight song in college football in its College Football Fan Index.
“Rocky Top” beat other famous fight songs including No. 2 “Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech,” Michigan’s “The Victors,” Notre Dame’s “Victory March” and more, according to the USA Today article.
Though “Rocky Top” isn’t UT’s official fight song (the official one being “Down the Field”), USA Today said it’s been played at football games since 1972.
Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, a husband-and-wife country songwriting team, wrote the song in around 10 minutes, the article said. The Osborne Brothers first recorded the song in 1967, and it became a Top 40 hit on the Billboard Country Chart.
