UPDATE: Pedestrian struck by train in Ooltewah
UPDATE: The man that was struck by a train early Monday, has been identified. Wade Witherow, 58, lost his leg and broke his arm in the accident.
Police said despite his injuries, Witherow was responsive and coherent.
His injuries are non-life threatening.
PREVIOUS STORY: A BNSF train has struck a pedestrian early Monday in Ooltewah. The train, carrying coal, was operating on the Norfolk Southern tracks.
Preliminary reports are that the male victim was struck, losing a leg and breaking an arm as he was on the tracks near the 4500 block of Woodhaven Road.
Police and rescue crews are on hand to stabilize the victim. He has since been transported to a nearby hospital for examination and treatment.
