Notre Dame HS student falls at Signal Point Park
It took rescue workers nearly four hours on Wednesday night to bring a teen who fell 30-40 feet at Signal Point Park to a waiting ambulance. The teen is a 16-year-old junior student at Notre Dame High School.
The school's Twitter account identifies the student as Lee Schemel. She has been able to move her arms, legs, and hands. Schemel was about a mile inside the park when a hiker called 911 around 6:45 p.m. She was loaded into an ambulance at approximately 10:30 p.m.
The hiker reported she was conscious and alert but definitely had sustained some injuries. Signal Mountain Fire Department responded and immediately requested a mutual aid response for additional rope rescue personnel. Walden's Ridge Emergency Services and Lone Oak VFD responded to the scene. Dallas Bay VFD is standing by at Signal Mountain Fire Department for any additional emergency calls.
Schemel is the daughter of Deputy District Attorney General Cindy LeCroy-Schemel.
Calls for prayer began to spread on social media and through other local private schools. The hashtag #PrayForLee united area students and school staff.
