A North Carolina husband and wife are facing charges of child abuse after officials say their 10-week old infant was in the hospital with broken bones and other serious life-threatening injuries.

Twenty-eight year old Sarah Ann Freeman, and 29-year-old Jonathan Robert Freeman, of Murphy, NC were indicted October 12th and arrested 2 days later.

The Cherokee County (NC) Sheriff Office officials say they were alerted to the baby's injuries early last month, and that the child was in the couple's care at the time of the injuries.

The Freemans are expected in court November 15th.
Sheriff Derrick Palmer stated "These cases are very difficult but the team effort that my office and the Cherokee County Department of Social Services took helped bring these parents to justice. My office will aggressively pursue anyone who exploits and harms our children."
