Employees let go from Hutcheson want answers

Posted: Updated:

Janet Benson says her Thursday started like any other.

“I got her probably a quarter after 6 pm, came walking in between 6:15 and 6:30,” said Benson.
Unfortunately Benson says bad news was waiting for her.

“She said, we're making cuts in upper, upper positions, and I’m sorry to tell you, you are one of them that we are cutting,” said Benson.

Benson says she's one of dozens of Hutcheson employees let go.

“I heard there were a total of 78 being cut yesterday, and today. I do have coworkers, some of them have worked here for over 35 years, it's really, really sad,” said Benson.

A notice, posted on the door of the Chickamauga Family Practice door reads in part: "services suspended until further notice." The clinic is affiliated with Hutcheson.
Hutcheson has had financial trouble in recent years. Four years ago Erlanger stepped in and loaned the hospital 20 million dollars so it could stay open.
Channel 3 made several attempts to reach Hutcheson leadership for comment. Each time we called we were told they were in a meeting and a statement would be released Friday afternoon. Our calls have not been returned and a no statement has been released.

“These are my friends, this is my family,” said Benson.
Benson says she was not given the pay she's owed. She too is having trouble getting answers. She says money is tight and this couldn't have come at a worse time.

“I’m a single mom. I got a daughter in college; I got a daughter in high school. I left her last night with $5 in my pocket, I did not know if I was going to make it home. I borrowed money,” said Benson.
