Roadrunners win 10th match of season in 2 nil shutout of Brewton-Parker

DALTON GA  ( ---  On a gorgeous night at Lakeshore Field, the Dalton State soccer team beat a valiant Brewton-Parker team 2-0.  The win moves the Roadrunners to 10-4-1 on the season and ensures that their first campaign will be a winning one.

The win over conference rival, Brewton-Parker (4-9; 0-4 in the conference), also moves the Roadrunners back over .500 (3-2) in the ultra-competitive Southern States Athletic Conference.

The first half was a defensive struggle with both squads being shutout.  Dalton State was buoyed by the excellent goalie play of freshman, Diego Gonza.l The second half was a different story as the Roadrunners scored twice and had multiple other opportunities on goal.

Dalton State’s lone senior, Ibrahima Sissoko put a beautiful corner kick in front of the goal where freshman Isael Guiterrez headed the ball into the net to give the Roadrunners a 1-0 advantage. It was a big night for Guiterrez who would later put a beautiful 50 ft. pass down field to record an assist on a goal by Tomide Adabale.  Adabale is one of the leading scorers in the country, and his goal was his 20th on the season to lead the conference.

For the rest of the match, Brewton-Parker managed to threaten a couple of times but the Roadrunner defense was extremely strong, per usual.

“The team played hard for the entire 90 minutes and I could not be more proud of them," said Coach Kerem Daser. "It was nice to win this match for our lone senior, Ibrahima since it was our final regular season home match  (the Roadrunners could potentially host a playoff match in November).  In addition, the crowd tonight was fantastic.  It felt like there were 1,000 people there and they were definitely our 12th man."

Daser added that he and the team look forward to their remaining matches and trying to earn another home match for the fans that have been so good to them.  “This town just has a great following for soccer, and we play for all the people who come see us and support us.”
