UPDATE: Police looking for rapist who followed and forced woman in his truck

Posted: Updated:

A woman says a man grabbed her, threw her into his truck and raped her after making lewd comments while she walked along a Chattanooga road.

Chattanooga police say it was broad daylight when the victim was walking on Calhoun Avenue Monday. She says a man in a black pickup truck followed her, abducted her and then drove more than a mile away to 13th Avenue where he attacked her.

News of the crimes have those living in the area near East Lake frightened.

"I don't know if he's still around or if he chooses to come back this way or not," a woman who lives nearby and has asked Channel 3 not to use her identity said.

After seeing Channel 3's coverage, she believes she's seen a man fitting that description in the area before.

"In the last couple of weeks, we've noticed a black truck with a white male come down to the end of our road, doesn't stop. He goes down, turns around, drives back down. And he does it multiple times a day," she said.

The woman describes the area as active with neighbors and kids outside regularly and people driving through, making it unusual for no one to report seeing anything.

"For no one to see it, it's kind of scary to me. There's people outside, I mean, even when it's dark out, there's people outside playing," she added.

For this mother of three, playing outside is now off limits as Chattanooga Police search for the person responsible.

"If he decided to just come back through and grab one of them, I have three little girls, it would be over with," she said, "I hope that they can catch him and that he doesn't get someone else or this happen again."

Police Information Officer Mark Frazer says the severity of the crime is nothing short of horrific.

"It's a very important crime we give a lot of attention to, which is why we've formed the Special Victim's Unit," he said.

Police say the suspect is described as a white male in his late 20's to early 30's, about 5'7'', 150-190 lbs. with short brown hair, unshaven with glasses and a muscular build with broad shoulders and possibly a large tattoo on his inner forearm.

The suspect vehicle is described as a newer black, 2-door Ford truck.
