Pirates' second half too much for Whitwell, South Pitt wins 42-14
SOUTH PITTSBURG, TN (WRCB) ---It's the dream of just about every young man who puts on a helmet and fastens the chin strap to one day, play on Sundays.
Thanks in part to Friday night's deluge postponing the South Pittsburg and Whitwell football game to Sunday, dreams do come true and sometimes earlier than expected.
So, South Pitt Pirate faithful got to watch Sunday football from the gang plank of the Bucs barge, and a good one early against the Tigers.
Here's the Pirates' Sawyer Kelley from 3 yards out putting South Pitt up a touchdown before the first quarter ended.
Whitwell's running back Jake Sartin responds with this 30 yard churn and burn for score but the 2 point conversion run fails, much to Tigers' Head Coach R.C Helton's chagrin.
We're at 7-6 as Pirate quarterback Hogan Holland looks and finds LaJuan D'von Ford blazing the sideline for a 48 yard touchdown reception as the failed conversion kick leaves Whitwell down six points.
The Tigers' Clay McHone and company cap this drive with a 1 yard run, Jake Sartin's run for two this time is good and its 14- 13 Whitwell at the break.
But Vic Grider's second half adjustments are plenty as South Pittsburg scores 29 unanswered. en route to a 42-14.
The Pirates are now 5 and 2 as they head to Lookout Valley Friday.
Whitwell falls to 3 -4, as the Tigers hit the road too Friday night for Sale Creek's Panthers.
