UPDATE: According to the Whitfield County Fire Department the man suffered life threatening injuries. He received 2nd and 3rd degree burns to 65-70% of his body.
He was air lifted to a burn center in Atlanta.
The sheriff’s office is investigating how the fire was started and if it was set intentionally. A bystander helped put out the fire before the fire department arrived.
ORIGINAL STORY: Whitfield County authorities are on the scene where a man reportedly set himself on fire.
Deputies were called to Walmart on Walnut Avenue shortly after 11am. That's where they found a male victim suffering from burns.
Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood tells Channel 3 the extent of the man's injuries is unclear. It is also not known how the fire started or if it was set intentionally.
