Milk for Kids program provides milk to families in need

Posted: Updated:

Circle K's Milk for Kids program is helping fight hunger by providing milk to families in need.

The company has partnered with the Great American Milk Drive -- along the with Southeast United Diary Industry Association.

The program provides milk to food banks throughout the country, including the Chattanooga Area Food Bank. More than $150,000 was raised across the southeast last month.

Organizers say milk contains many essential nutrients that people need, but it's rarely donated.

"Milk is a highly requested product but unfortunately food banks really only get about one gallon of milk per person a year, so there's a big gap there," said Laura Marbury, with Southeast United Dairy Industry Association

Since its launch in 2014, the Great American Milk drive has delivered more than 400,000 gallons of milk to families across the country.
