Hundreds of homicide detectives visit Chattanooga this week

Posted: Updated:

Chattanooga is the training ground this week for more than 400 homicide investigators from across the United States.

The Chattanooga Police Department, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office and the Hamilton County District Attorney's Office are hosting the 24th Annual ROCIC (Regional Organized Crime Information Center) Homicide Conference.

"Just about everything related to homicide investigations. We're starting out this morning talking about cold case investigations and no body investigations which can be challenging," said Sgt. Bill Phillips, who helped organize the event.

The detectives will attend a number of lectures and discussions on topics including:

  • Cold case and no body homicide investigations
  • Behavior-based interviewing techniques
  • Investigating officer-involved homicides
  • Threat assessments of mass killers
  • Inside the mind of the violent offender

Senator Bob Corker and Congressmen Chuck Fleischmann headlined the event and spoke before to the group of hundreds.

The conference continues at the Chattanooga Trade and Convention Center Tuesday and Wednesday but is only open to registered law enforcement personnel.
