East Ridge HS teacher suspended after domestic assault arrest

Posted: Updated:

An East Ridge High School teacher is suspended without pay after he reportedly broke his wife’s nose during an argument, according to an affidavit of complaint.

Grant Allen Blaylock, 52, faces one count of aggravated domestic assault.

Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called out to Memorial Hospital just before 3:30 a.m. Wednesday after the couple had an argument at their residence on Houser Ridge Lane.

Blaylock’s wife told a deputy that she went to turn away when he threw the phone in her direction. A doctor told deputies that Blaylock’s wife suffered a minor fracture to her nose.

Court records show Blaylock has two prior arrests for assault. One of those charges resulted in a conviction where Blaylock served a six month suspended sentence in 1997.

School district officials say Blaylock will remain suspended pending the outcome of court proceedings.

Blaylock has posted a $5,000 bond since this week’s arrest. He is scheduled to appear before Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judge Gary Starnes on Oct. 14.
