McCallie, Baylor rivalry heats up in advance of Friday showdown

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN  (WRCB) -- The Scenic City's annual private school, pigskin battle is upon us once again as the McCallie Blue Tornado prepare to venture into Baylor's Heywood Stadium Friday night.

The game is WRCB's Friday Night Football Game of the Week.

It hasn't been the best of seasons for McCallie so far. At 2-3 at the midway point, this game may mean more to the Blue Tornado and their post-season hopes than for the Red Raiders and their 5-1 mark.

McCallie Head Coach Ralph Potter hopes his team's tough schedule thus far will translate into more wins as they head down the homestretch of their season.

" We've lost one game that was a half game and we lost another game on a last second field goal and another one in overtime and they were really good teams so I think hopefully thats helped us get a lot better," said Potter Wednesday prior to his team's practice.

"Its obviously a big deal," says Blue Tornado Junior quarterback Robert Riddle. " But its just another game and I try to look at it as just another game on the schedule."

" We are two and three but we played really great opponents and really tough teams," says McCallie Senior quarterback and Safety Javaughn Craig. " Honestly,  we made three different plays and we could easily be 5 and 0.

Game time is set for 7:30pm Friday.

We'll check into the Red Raider Den Thursday.
