Tennessee to celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day
NASHVILLE (AP) - The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency says it will be celebrating National Hunting and Fishing Day on Saturday.
National Hunting and Fishing Day is celebrated each year on the fourth Saturday in September. It was established by Congress in 1972 and recognizes hunters and anglers for their contributions to wildlife conservation.
Outdoor celebrities Jim and Eva Shockley are this year's honorary co-chairs.
According to the agency, wildlife conservation efforts are funded mainly by federal aid programs, license fees and taxes paid on outdoor recreational equipment including firearms, ammunition and fishing gear. These funds support conservation programs, habitat acquisitions, and outdoor recreation opportunities in Tennessee and throughout the nation.
