UPDATE: Watts Bar Lake drowning victim identified

UPDATE: The Rhea County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of man who drowned over the weekend.

Jack Stacy Jr., 57, of Dalton died as a result of an accidental drowning Sunday.

Family members tell Channel 3, Stacy was with a friend when the boat they were in got away from the shore at Sand Island. Stacy was attempting to swim to the boat to recover it when he drowned.

The sheriff’s office has ruled the case as an accidental drowning.

Funeral arrangements are set for Saturday at Dalton Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11am, with a service to follow at noon.

Stacy was living in Decatur and working at a marina, but was originally from the Dalton area where his son and grandchildren live.

PREVIOUS STORY: Rhea County authorities are still working to notify family members before releasing the name of the person who drowned Monday.

The drowning was reported to dispatchers around 6:45pm.

First responders arrived to Watts Bar Lake shortly after that to find the person deceased.

The sheriff’s office is still working to reach the victim’s family members who are out of state. Once they are notified the victim’s name and age will be released.
