Chattanooga Fire Department responded to call for a person that had fallen 20 feet down into a trench Monday.
The fall occurred around noon on the 12th Street side of the TVA Building according to CFD.
When arriving on the scene firefighters located a TVA contract worker that fallen into a concrete trench beside the building.
Fire Department personnel entered the trench to administer patient care and prepare the victim for extrication.
Chattanooga Fire Departments Urban Search and Rescue Team prepared a technical rope rescue to lift the man out of the trench.
The rescue took about 25 to 30 minutes the man was transported to Erlanger Hospital.
A wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain has blanketed a large swath of the South, trailed by a blast of frigid air that could approach record low temperatures.
State government will be closed Wednesday in the impacted areas for non-essential personnel.
