Pierzynski delivers in 9th, Braves beat Phillies 2-1
ATLANTA (AP) - A.J. Pierzynski's single in the ninth inning drove in Andrelton Simmons from third, and the Atlanta Braves, led by Julio Teheran's bid for a perfect game, beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 on Sunday.
Teheran had a perfect game through six innings before giving up a single to Freddy Galvis to lead off the seventh.
With one out in the ninth, Simmons reached on an infield hit off Luis Garcia (3-6) and advanced to second on third baseman Cody Asche's errant throw to first. With Jace Peterson at the plate, Simmons stole third. Peterson walked.
Pierzynski, who entered as a replacement for injured starter Christian Bethancourt in the top of the inning, dropped a single into shallow center field to drive in Simmons.
Peter Moylan (1-0) recorded the final two outs in the ninth.
