CHATTANOOGA, TN  ( --  The Chattanooga Mocs softball team won their first fall scrimmage against Cleveland State 18-2. It was a situational game featuring a runner on first base, first and second and first and third.

"I'm excited about the way we played," head coach Frank Reed said. "You always wonder how the first outing is going to be. All and all, we put a lot of runs on the board, and we ran our first and third really well."

Saturday's game was the first time playing as a Moc for six newcomers, including five freshmen and one Chattanooga State transfer. Of the new additions to the team, five are Tennessee natives.

UTC is going into its second week of team practice.

"I hope to see more consistency at the plate and for us to continue to build on that," Reed said.

Chattanooga is set to play Roane State Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. (E.D.T.) and Lincoln Memorial Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. in Frost Stadium. Then, the Mocs host the RBI Club Fall Classic Oct. 2-3, featuring West Georgia Tech, Union, Bryan and Chattanooga State.
