Chief operating officer for Chattanooga steps down

Posted: Updated:

The city’s chief operating officer is returning to the private sector after submitting a resignation letter dated September 1.

Brent Goldberg, who has worked for Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke’s administration since June of 2013, will be working as the vice president and chief financial officer of Lesco Logistics and Lync America. Goldberg first worked as deputy chief operating officer and then later as chief operating officer.

“Since taking office, I have been committed to hiring smart, talented individuals to run city government. That means finding ways to ensure the most effective services at the best value to taxpayers -- but it also means other companies and organizations quickly take notice,” said Mayor Berke in a released statement.

In his resignation letter, submitted to Mayor Berke Goldberg said it was not an easy decision.

“While I will miss serving in local government, I am excited about returning to the private sector to serve as a leader in the Chattanooga business community,” he said.

Goldberg will begin his new job  October 1. City Deputy Chief Operating Officer David Carmody will act as interim the position is filled.
