Those who encounter 56-year-old Kate Steward on the water, have no idea what she's been through as she embarks on an ambitious river journey.

After being diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer, Kate refused traditional treatments, and has been on a path of natural healing for the past two years, declining chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

She's taking her love of the water on a kayak trip from Chattanooga to Mobile, Alabama.  Along the way, she's meeting fishermen and recreational users, talking about conservation and water quality. She's also determined to show that a serious cancer diagnosis does not have to slow you down.

Kate has established a GoFundMe page to help support her along the way. She plans to write a book on this trip, along with her sailing expeditions across the South Atlantic Ocean and her hiking trips in South Africa.  When you see this amazing woman in the yellow kayak, you'll know she's spreading a message of hope and determination.

She says her most recent blood work shows she is in good health, and is prepared to complete the trip to Mobile.  "I want to send a message to others who may have been given a similar diagnosis," she said. "Don't put off your dreams another day, do it now."
