UPDATE: Burglary suspect arrested after school lockdowns

UPDATE: Hamilton County Sheriff's deputies arrested 25-year-old Sylvester Clifton Kirkwood, Jr. around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the Hunter Road area of Ooltewah. 

A man called for help when he saw a man on his back porch. This was not far from where an earlier burglary occurred which prompted schools in the area to be on lockdown. Deputies arrived and arrested Kirkwood.

He is charged with aggravated burglary and booked on an outstanding warrant for failure to pay child support.

If you have any information on this incident call 423-622-0022. There is a possibility of a second suspect.

UPDATE: Hamilton County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the 6900 block of Spinmaker Cove, Ooltewah on a burglary in progress Tuesday. 

As a precautionary measure, nearby schools were locked down. Deputies swept the area, and schools returned to normal security measures.

The homeowner told deputies that he had discovered an unknown car that was backed up to his home.  

The owner used his vehicle to block the unknown vehicle.

Two black males came out of his house, got into their car and then rammed the owner’s vehicle.   

During their attempt to escape, the driver pointed a pistol at the homeowner.  

As the suspects tried to leave, their vehicle became stuck in the driveway and the suspects fled on foot.

Deputies describe the suspects as:

  • Two black males 
  • Suspect 1 - Slim to medium build 
  • Suspect 2 - Large build  
  • One suspect was wearing a red shirt

PREVIOUS STORY: Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a burglary in progress in the Ooltewah area earlier today.

As a precautionary measure Wallace Smith Elementary and Hunter Middle Schools were placed on lockdown. Those lockdowns have since been lifted.

The sheriff’s office says it will release additional details in the case shortly.
