Concert to honor UT music professor who died of wasp sting

KNOXVILLE (News Sentinel) -

The Southern Stars Symphonic Brass ensemble will play a free memorial concert to honor Kelly Thomas, who died in June after a severe allergic reaction to a wasp sting.

Thomas, 40, was the principal euphonium musician for the ensemble and a popular tuba and euphonium professor at the University of Tennessee.

The concert is 3:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at Cornerstone Church, 1250 Heritage Lake Blvd.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted for the Thomas Family Fund, which benefits his wife, Jana, and their four children.
