Man arrested on UTC's campus for burglary

According to UTC Police late Friday night dispatch reported a suspicious person lurking around Johnson Obear Apartments, on 501 Oak Street. 

Police said the suspicious person described as a black man with a grey beard entered a occupied apartment, number 322. 

Officers arrived outside of the apartment building and noticed the described suspect walking down the stairwell front the third floor.

According to police the officer saw the suspect pull two apartment door handles. 

Then the officer stopped the suspect and requested identification.

The man presented a taxi  business card and reluctantly provided a Tennessee Driver's License.

The man was identified as Joseph E. Fields, 47, who had been arrested before for burglary and theft from different residence halls on UTC campus. 

Fields, who had a UTC Mocs book bag that contained two laptop computers and about $500 in cash.

One of the tenants in apartment 322 identified one of the computers.

The tenant estimated the value of the computer around $500. 

Fields, has been charged with two counts of aggravated burglary and two theft over $500.

Joseph E. Fields, bond was set at $72,500.
